The offered piece of Americana features the Statue of Liberty in all her glory, prior to actually being assembled on Liberty Island in New York harbor. The 11” high-grade silk bookmark is still attached to the paper backing, both in (NM-MT) condition. The colors on the silk are bright and bold and the tassel is nearly flawless. The original backing has the manufacturer’s name at the top, B.B. Tilt & Son, and only the mildest of toning is present on the reverse. Dated 1881, the silk does predate the actual dedication of the Statue of Liberty to America from France, although Édouard René de Laboulaye’s lady was already produced by 1881.
