Simultaneously launching their respective unparalleled endeavors in 1960, Muhammad Ali and The Beatles were to wrest the attention and adoration of millions of followers the globe over. Ali, of course, had just secured the Gold Medal as a Light Heavyweight in the 1960 Olympics. The Beatles, meanwhile, having built their reputation in clubs throughout Liverpool and Hamburg, were destined to reach unprecedented heights both in England and abroad. Bound to cross paths during a time of political and social upheaval, Ali and the Beatles finally did meet. The offered piece carries immeasurable value for both its remarkably bold autograph and for the image of the entertainers (and in Ali's case, an athlete/entertainer) who boldly bucked established mores and trends to make their own statements on their own terms while attracting a following unprecedented in terms of size and fervor. Framed to dimensions of 52-5/8 x 42-1/2", this 40x30 black-and-white photograph portrays the youthful "Fab Four" posing in a Miami, Florida boxing ring as Ali mockingly delivers a right-hand "knockout" blow that strikes George Harrison and, of course, has a domino effect designed to topple the musicians in succession. The photo was taken in February 1964, shortly after the Beatles had debuted on U.S. soil. While nobody in his right mind would dare step into a ring with Ali at that time, the Beatles were perhaps the only idols whose popularity rivaled Ali's. Thus, this photo opportunity came to fruition and was warmly embraced by all who took part. In gold marker, Ali has endorsed the image with a signature that trumpets "Perfect 10" strength and clarity, trumping just about any Ali penning you'll ever behold. This is truly an item without peer, as it melds Americana, entertainment and legendary athleticism. Full photo LOA from PSA/DNA (certification #J86291).
