Having tamed National League pitchers for 21 seasons, Hall of Famer Honus Wagner retired and took a bride to his native Carnegie, Pennsylvania in 1918. His passion and competitive spirit still not sated, Wagner immediately assumed the roles of head baseball and basketball coach at Carnegie Institute of Technology. The offered 1919 edition of Thistle depicts Wagner in his collegiate coaching capacity. The 398-page hardbound volume depicts Wagner on four different pages. Appropriately, the Athletics section (page 145) begins with an artist's rendition of Wagner. The remaining three Wagner likenesses are black-and-white photographs, including one as part of a team photo. The covers and all pages are crisp and intact, though there is expected wear along the edges and spine.
